and other representational systems
Apply transformations and use symmetry to
analyze mathematical situations
Use visualization, spatial reasoning, and
geometric modeling to solve problems

NCTM Standards 2000

Geometric sense is about shape and space. Students can visualize objects by using either two or three-dimensional models. They learn about basic shapes, such as circles, triangles and parallelograms. Then they learn how to transform these shapes by viewing them from different perspectives. They also learn how three-dimensional objects occupy space. Finally, as they move to a higher level of understanding, they learn to construct geometric proofs.
