Math is a science consisting of pattern and order. It is also an essential skill all students must learn. Elementary school math gives kids the background they need to master more complex math. There are many ways to organize the math curriculum. Of course, it needs to reflect your state's mathematic standards and cover the area specified in state benchmarks and frameworks. We will describe one way to think about the math curriculum. We will be basing this mainly on the NCTM 2000 standards. However, you will need to review your state standards and benchmarks, your local curriculum scope and sequence, and any state assessment information available to you. |
